Pipe Dream Polish Interference

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! We stayed home and laid low all day, just the way we like it. Although I did do a little swatching for you, of course. :)

Today I have another Pipe Dream Polish. 

This beauty is Interference, part of the Lorde Gatsby collection. 

Interference is made up of a rainbow of iridescent glitter in a darkened plum jelly base.

For this mani I used 3 thin coats of Interference and topped it with 2 coats of Glisten & Glow HK Girl topcoat. 

The formula for this one is a little bit tricky. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it is a bit thick. I think that is because it is packed with so much glitter. Adding a few drops of thinner will straighten it right out. 

The application on this was a dream, even though it was a bit thick. The glitter is so evenly and densely packed in here, it distritbutes itself. And you can see down through all the layers, you know how I love that. 

The color was hard to capture, but I would call it a deep, vampy, plum. It some lights it's nearly black, but the jelly consistency shows the true plum/purple undertones. It's so pretty.

Pipe Dream Polish Spam!

Hi everyone! I have a couple of Pipe Dream Polishes that I shared on my Instagram but haven't had a chance to do a blog post on, so I'm combining them into one slightly spammy post. :)

For the love of the jelly sandwich...

Okay I admit it, I've never been a fan of jelly polishes. For those of you that don't know, a jelly polish has a transparent consistency. On the nail it looks a bit like jelly... there's color, but it's see through, and it's kinda shiny and squishy. My first jelly was Essie Marshmallow. That was back before I realized what different types of finishes there were and I have to say I HATED that polish for the longest time. I couldn't master it... it was streaky and never built up to full opacity. I don't like being able to see my nail line so I used like 5 coats. It was just awful. So it went in the polish drawer for like a year and a half. 

Fast forward to the time in my life when I started discovering nail blogs and learning about all things nail polish. I started seeing these manis called "jelly sandwiches" and they were incredible! But I couldn't find any explination or definition of what they were. After much searching and asking stupid questions I found out that a jelly sandwich mani is simply a mani that sandwiches a glitter polish between a couple of coats of jelly. Oooooh.... that made sense. And they are great! But, I never really tried one until one fateful day a couple of weeks ago when the lovely Amy McPolish on Instagram decided to do a giveaway. (Go check out her Instagram, trust me she's amazing.) She reached 2000 followers and decided to do a giveaway with "I Love Jellies" as the theme. So, I decided to get on board and enter a few times. Now you should keep in mind that since I discovered what this jelly sandwich thing was I bought a couple more jellies but hadn't played much with them. 

When Amy posted this giveaway I decided it was time to give a few a try. I knew I had a few amazing glitters that would work well, and I've got a handy dandy macro lens for my iphone that I absolutely love. So I went to work. 

First up is OPI I Theodora You with OPI Polka.com sandwiched in between.

Second is one that I did with a base of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, then Lush Lacquer Freckles, then Essie Marshmallow. 

And last but certainly not least is my quadruple decker jelly sandwich. I used OPI Don't Burst My Bubble and OPI Lights Of Emerald City. One coat of DBMB, one coat of LOEC, one coat of DBMB, one coat of LOEC, and topped it with DBMB. This one was my favorite. 

All three of these manicures are topped with Glossy Glam from Just Ricarda on Etsy. My very favorite topcoat ever. Yeah that's right, I said it. It's hundreds of times better than Seche Vite, my former favorite quick dry topcoat. Go check out her store here, buy yourself a bottle. Trust me, you won't be sorry. All the glassy shine of Seche but without the shrinkage and scuffing/scratching. Yeah, it's that good. 

So what do you all think about jelly sandwich manicures? I love them. I'm wearing one now that I will post tomorrow. :)

Hangin' On Like a YoYo

Good morning everyone! Happy Friday! Wake me up before you go-go, don't keep me hangin' on like a yo-yo... Yeah I've had that stuck in my head off and on since I swatched this beauty. Thanks April. ;) But really, who doesn't love a little Wham! on a Friday morning? 

Today I have a swatch and review of a super fun glitter indie polish called Hangin' On Like a YoYo by Pipe Dream Polish. April describes this polish as medium matte teal, periwinkle, yellow, and aqua glitters in a neon coral base. And she means neon coral when she says NEON coral. This one is bright and extremely fun. On my fair (pasty) skin tone this pulled a little more coral than pink, but in person it leans more pink. 

As with all of the Pipe Dream polishes that I've tried, the application is a dream. The glitters distribute evenly with no effort, the layers are easy to apply thinly so you can get that great "jelly sandwich" look. If you love bright, fun, color combos in your polishes, you NEED this one. It's fantastic. I didn't get a pic of this in full sun, but that's probably a good thing. I think all of the neon goodness might have given my camera a seizure.

This is 3 thin coats of Hangin' On Like a YoYo with one coat of Glossy Glam on top. All in all I love this polish, but I'm not sure it's something I will wear very often. While I LOVE bright polishes, I rarely wear them for any length of time. I'm not sure why, I just get tired of them after a while. No matter how awesome they are. 

What do you all think? Isn't this the perfect mix of glitters for this base? I love it.

Hotter Than a Fantasy

Hey polish friends! How is everyone's week going so far? It finally stopped raining here and we are finally going to get a few days of nice weather.

Tonight is a quick swatch and review post that is pretty picture heavy. This is the 3rd Pipe Dream Polish that I purchased, it is called Hotter Than a Fantasy. This polish is part of April's Just a Girl Collection - all of the polish names are taken from song lyrics by female artists. This title is taken Alicia Keys' Girl on Fire. April describes this in her shop as a sapphire blue base, but to me it looks more purple. Either way, it's really pretty. The glitters are varying sizes of pink and orange. Plus April's awesome, shimmery iridescent little pieces of glittery goodness that I love so much.

This polish is just whoa... glitter bomb like crazy, jelly sandwich in a bottle. For my pictures I used 3 coats and topped it with two coats of Glossy Glam. It is harder to work with than the other two Pipe Dreams that I've posted. But, it should be harder to work with; this one has a lot more glitter and includes the larger, harder to work with pieces. It's just the nature of polishes like this. But it is so worth it! It is so packed with glitter that you don't have to place anything, the only difficulty I had was that it was a bit thick. Quick tip for ya, if you have a chunky glitter that you know you're going to be using soon, try storing it upside down for a little while before polishing. This makes the big glitters come to the top, so when you flip it back over to paint they are right where they need to be for the brush to pick them up. 

This polish is gorgeous! The squishy layers... ugh. I just can't. I'm gonna let the pictures speak for themselves. The sun and light box are the most true to color, but I had to include the shade pictures too because they were too pretty to pass up!
