Twinsie Tuesday: I've Been Meaning To....

Hey everyone!!! Long time no see! I took a hiatus for vacation, then when we got home life got kind of crazy. But now I'm back and hopefully I can get back into posting more frequently. For now, Twinsie Tuesday!!!

This weeks prompt is I've Been Meaning To.... Basically anything we've been meaning to do. For me that was easy, I've been meaning to do anything with my nails! For a long time I've wanted to try ikat nails and I figured this was perfect excuse. :) There are a lot of tutorials for this design online, I followed one on The Budget Babe. 


For my base I used OPI My Dogsled is a Hybrid. (Thank you Bridget!) I then painted the design with acrylic paint. 

Overall I'm pretty happy with these. I see some things I would like to fix, but it's my first nail art in ages and my first time trying ikat, so I think I did pretty good!

Twinsie Tuesday, Classic

Good morning everyone! Happy Tuesday!

Today's theme is Classic... I thought about going with a classic French Tip, or a nice neutral Mauve, but the more I thought about it the more I kept thinking RED. Red is a classic nail polish color, I think it was one of the first colors worn on nails. Plus, I have a very "classic" red to share.

This is OPI Coca-Cola Red.


To me, this is a true "classic red". It's a really true red, doesn't lean orange or show any blue undertones (to me). It's just straight up red. Awesome red. Red based on the best soft drink ever invented, Coca-Cola. It's my weakness and I'm not ashamed of it. Judge me all you want, but please don't try and chastize me or lecture me about it. I know it's bad for me, I'm almost 34, I'll drink it if I want to. ;) haha :)

This mani is 2 smooth coats of Coca-Cola Red topped with HK Girl by Glisten and Glow. Truth be told this was on day 3 of my mani, I forgot to snap pics on day 1, and it held up so well I went with it. I wish I would've moisturized a little before I snapped the pic, but what can you do. 

I'm not a fan of red nails on myself, it's my husbands favorite polish color. Go figure. But I do love this one, even on me. Maybe it's just my love for Coke, who knows.

Twinsie Tuesday, Inspired by a Book

  Hello friends! Happy Tuesday! Slowly but surely I'm starting to feel like myself again thankfully. Hopefully I'll be back to blogging soon. 

Today's prompt is Inspired By a Book. Bet you all thought I would do Harry Potter didn't you... :) I was going to, but then I looked at the cover for the book I'm currently reading and decided I needed to do it. 

This is my mani inspired by City of Heavenly Fire, by Cassandra Clare. 


Oddly enough I liked my right hand more, that never happens. 



I read on a Nook Simple Touch, which means no color.... So here is a color image of the cover from www.cassandraclare.com. 


First just let me say that if you like young adult fiction, fantasy, good vs evil, all that stuff, you should check The Mortal Instruments series out. I'm having trouble reading it because I'm not ready for the series to end! I also read the sister series, Infernal Devices and loved them too. 

Ok back to the nails. For these I started with 2 coats of OPI Black Onyx then topped it with Glisten & Glow HK Girl topcoat to get it dry. 

I used so many colors I had to take this picture so I would remember. I think I'll just post it instead of listing them out. 


I used little pieces of Saran Wrap crumpled up to get this effect. With some colors I painted it on my nail and used dry Saran Wrap to blot some off. For other colors I put a few drops on foil and picked it up with my Saran Wrap and kind of stamped it on. There really wasn't much rhyme or reason, I just did whatever I thought it needed to look like magical fire. 

So I think I did ok, what do you think? Overall I was pleased with them and even wore them all weekend.

Twinsie Tuesday, Interlocking Dots

Hi everyone! Sorry for the super late post today. Not trying to make excuses, but between my body and life I just didn't get this post written in time. But I did get the mani done!!! 

Interlocking dots was one of the first nail art techniques that I tried and was SUPER impressed with. Not gonna lie I was proud of myself. ;) I remember seeing it online somewhere and being baffled, then saw the breakdown of it and thought "I can do that!!!!!". That's always a great feeling. There are loads of tutorials and videos online for this so I won't go into details. But check it out, it's so easy and has huge impact! 


For this mani I used 2 favorites, OPI Keeping Suzi at Bay and Jade is the New Black. All topped with HK Girl Topcoat. I went all different directions to mix it up. :)

Twinsie Tuesday, Inspired by Nature

Good morning friends! Happy Twinsie Tuesday! 

 Today's prompt is "Inspired by Nature". There were a ton of things rolling around in my head for this prompt, but I decided to go a little more abstract than I usually do. I'm not overly thrilled with how these turned out, but I do love these colors together! 

I was going for a "sunset inspired" look... I don't think I really achieved it, other than the colors. They're pretty sunset-ty right? :) 

For this mani I used all OPI colors: Where Did Suzi's Man-go, Can't Find My Czeckbook, and Keeping Suzi at Bay. All topped with Glisten & Glow HK Girl topcoat. 

I used dotting tools for the layers, for some reason in my head I thought it would look neat. But I think I should've opted for a gradient. There's always next time!

So what do you think? They're kind of growing on me, but not what I wanted.

Twinsie Tuesday, One Stroke Flowers

Hi everyone! Sorry for the late post. Things have been tough lately. But I'll be fine! 

Today's prompt was One Stroke Flowers. I'm not sure how to explain this technique. But if you google it or get in YouTube you'll see explanations. Basically you use acrylic paint, putting 2 colors on the same brush, then use one stroke to paint. Looks and sounds much easier than it is! But I think it turned out ok for my first try! 



This mani has a base of OPI 4 In The Morning and acrylic paint for the flowers. All topped with HK Girl topcoat. 

What to you think? Have you tried this technique? I want to practice more and maybe get really good at it someday!

Twinsie Tuesday, Stripes

Good evening everyone and happy Tuesday! Sorry I'm late posting today, I just haven't been feeling 100% lately and needed sleep last night. 

 For today's prompt we were supposed to do a mani with stripes. I wracked my brain over this one and couldn't come up with anything that interested me except for a mani I did a few months ago but never posted. 


This is the mani that I did for our anniversary weekend back in March. Just over 12 years we've been married, I can't believe how lucky I am sometimes! Mike's favorite polish color is red, so I started with Zoya Sooki. Then I decided to try my hand at the famous "amkuch" mani. (She made this design famous, you should definitely check her out on Instagram, her nails are AMAZING!) On my middle finger I did 2 coats of OPI This Gown Needs a Crown and added In True Stefani Fasion. On my ring finger I used 2 coats of This Gown Needs a Crown and added 1 coat of HK Girl topcoat by Glisten & Glow. Once that was fully dry I used my straight Nail Vinyls from www.nailvinyls.com to add stripes in OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls. Then I freehanded a little heart in Sooki. After everything was dry I gave all of my nails another coat of HK Girl and I was good to go!

I loved this mani so much that I've been saving it in my phone for months waiting for the perfect time to post. This was the perfect time! 

I hope you like this mani! I definitely need to try this again once my poor little teeny ring finger nail is back to a normal length!

Born Pretty Store Review, 2mm Square Studs

Good evening everyone! Tonight I have a review of some Born Pretty Store Studs! 


For this mani I started with 3 coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls. When the 3rd coat was still tacky, I added the studs. If you are doing this and your polish is totally dry, you can use a little dab of clear coat where you want to put the stud. Once I got them all placed I topped it with a coat of Just Ricarda's Glossy Glam. (buy yours here!)After that was dry I clipped the stud on my middle finger that extended over the edge. 

Overall I really like these studs. The thing that I didn't like is that they got all mixed together in the container. I guess that can't really be avoided with something like this... but it took all of my willpower and logical reasoning to not dump the whole thing and resort them. Having them mixed up made it even trickier to pick out studs, especially if I wanted a specific color.

Twinsie Tuesday, Inspired by a Beverage/Food

Good morning everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I'm doing ok, I've been better but I've been worse so I'm going with that. :)

Today's prompt is Inspired by a Beverage/Food.Well with OPI's recent Coca-Cola collection I had to go with my very favorite soda, Vanilla Coke! Here's my disclaimer, yes I know it's bad for me. So don't even start with your lectures and facts and figures... I get it. I'm 33, I know. But it makes me happy... so I drink it. It's my decision after all. :)


For this mani I started with 2 coats of OPI You're So Vain-illa then topped it with Glisten & Glow HK Girl. For the soda and bubbles I used acrylic paint. (If you'd like to see how I make my bubbles you can see a pictorial I did on Amanda's blog here!) Then I sealed it all in again with HK Girl. 

These didn't turn out quite how I imagined, but they get the idea across! They also remind me of a concoction I've seen Cristina Alvarado (Her Instagram is here, you should be following her! Her work is AMAZING!!) drinking; a mixture of Coke and Evaporated Milk. I want to try it so bad but haven't yet. It isn't that bad for you is it? 

So what do you think? Do these remind you of Vanilla Coke? Or maybe evaporated milk and Coke. Any of you had that mix? What does it taste like!?!

Twinsie Tuesday Summer Lovin!

Hi everyone! Sorry for my late Twinsie post. Better late than never! 

Today's prompt is Summer Lovin. And what says summer more than a bright almost neon green?!? 


This is 3 somewhat difficult coats of OPI You're So Outta Lime topped with HK Girl topcoat. I wouldn't call this polish a neon, but it has a neon formula. Maybe it's easier over white, but it was still worth it. I loved wearing this one! It's neon without being NEON. :)

Twinsie Tuesday, Add some 3D nail art (Born Pretty Oval Metallic Studs)

 Good morning everyone! I hope you're all having a good week so far. Today I have a Twinsie Tuesday post combined with a Born Pretty Store product review. 

 Today's TT prompt was "add some 3D nail art". Well, I don't do a lot of 3D nail art, so I don't own a lot of 3D nail art products. But a few weeks ago I got these neat little studs from the Born Pretty Store and thought this would be a perfect time to show them!




I did these before I had to chop off most of my ring finger nail... I miss that thing! If you don't follow my instagram I had a minor injury to the nail and the doctor said I need to keep it super short until the nail reattaches to the bed. *sigh* (#polishaddictproblems :) )

For this mani I started with 1 coat of OPI 4 In The Morning and let it dry. Once it was dry I applied a 2nd coat, while it was still wet I applied the stud using the wax pencils that I posted about here.

To be honest I'm not really that crazy about these studs. They are pretty, but they really stick up off the nail. If I applied topcoat over them I think they'd probably last a few days but I just don't love things that stick up off my nail that far. But they are really neat if you like that kind of decoration!

Twinsie Tuesday, Follower Requested Mani

Good morning everyone! I hope that you all had a nice weekend! My week this week is going to be hectic, I've been dreading it all weekend... But it didn't ruin it all for me. 

Today's Twinsie Tuesday prompt is follower-requested mani. I posted a request on Instagram and got a few great ideas. So I went with the first one, real feather nails as requested by the lovely Amy from McPolish. (www.instagram.com/mcpolish Follow her, now. You won't be sorry!) 

I've never done nail art with real feathers so this was a fun challenge. 



For this mani I used feathers from Michael's and my polish is OPI Hey Baby. I followed a YouTube tutorial by jessFACE90, you should go check her out! I just realized I wasn't following her on Instagram too... Fixed that!!! 

Overall I like the way this turned out. But it was tricky for me to do, mostly because I'm doing my nail stuff on my dominant hand until my ring finger nail on my left hand is up to par. I'll be ambidextrous before it's all said and done!!!! 

What do you all think of these? Have you tried feather nails? It's a fun way to get a really funky look!

Twinsie Tuesday... Nail Appliqués

Good morning everyone! I hope you're having a great week so far! 

For today's Twinsie Tuesday post the prompt was nail appliqués. I have to say I groaned when I saw this one... I've never had much luck with nail strips and I was worried that I would be fighting my nails the entire time. But I was pleasantly surprised! Here's what I came up with. 


For this mani I painted 3 coats of OPI Toucan Do It If You Try on my pinky and pointer, then applied Sally Hansens Love Letter nail stripes to my ring and middle fingers. It was my first successful application and I like it! I need practice, I can't stand seeing my nail at the tips like is shown here. But it was a successful attempt so it gives me hope! I think I will always prefer the look and feel of polish though. 

What do you all think of appliqués? Yay or nay?
